SIRI ALLISON
Who doesn't love an interesting story? Our minds are engineered to think narratively, so we remember a story more easily than a list of facts or dates. Stories are a great way to engage students with new ideas, and to help them develop higher-level thinking skills. Acting out the stories reinforces the story structure, and increases the students' self-confidence and creativity.
My programs are designed for elementary classrooms, with multiple visits to reinforce listening, comprehension, public speaking, and creative skills.
Each classroom visit lasts about 45 minutes (half-hour for kindergarten). I tell two or more stories, and bring props and costumes for acting out one of them. The stories open up topics for rousing discussion. We have a lot of serious fun!
I am happy to design a program around teachers' requests. To learn more about my currently available programs, click on the lines in the upper left hand corner of this page. The themes are:
Paths to Peacemaking - Grades 5&6
Character Building - Grades 2-4
Tales to Tell the World - Grades 2-3
Kindergarten Capers - Pre-school, Kindergarten
Write Your Own Plays -- all grades
